#MovieReview: Ford V Ferrari
Mike, have you watched the movie named Ford V Ferrari?
What do you think about the movie from your POV, Mike?
From my amateur POV,
1st of all, this movie is simply the best I've ever watched in 2019.
The plot of this movie is the rivalry between Ford & Ferrari in the 1966 season of the Endurance Racing's Crown Jewel: Le Mans 24 Hours.
The rivalry started when Ford are wanted to buy the Prancing Horse (the nickname of Ferrari).
As a matter of info, the Ferrari where in quite poor financial condition, back then.
But, it all ends up in failure, as the Ferrari's decided to cancel the deal and instead, allowing FIAT to buy the Ferrari's stock.
Not only canceling the deal with the American brand, the owner of the Prancing Horse, Enzo Ferrari, also insulted the Henry Ford II (the owner of Ford, back then) by quoting him to keep building their ugly cars.
The moment he insulted the HF2, my bloods really boiled, because, me, as a fans of Ford (since 2012), felt insulted too. I don't know how to describe Enzo's arrogance, tbvh.
After that, HF2 declares war with Ferrari by competing against them in Le Mans 24, the racing where the Maranello's squad dominated in the early 60's era.
To fulfill HF2's dream, he recruits one of the world legendary car designer, Carroll Shelby.
I really loved the 60's vibe this movie had. Just very authenticity with very minimum CGI cliches.
Not only the movie has well balanced dialogue of comedy, seriousness, and sceptical.
Carroll Shelby is not alone, he with the Brits, Ken Miles developed the car to beat Ferrari. The start didn't go smooth like silk. The car requires constant refinement during the development and the sceptical PR team, because for them, Ken Miles didn't appear like a proper Ford driver in terms of looks.
For me, the most enjoyable moments in this film was when they compete in Daytona 24h and Sebring 12h, the two most important races before competing in the infamous Le Mans 24h.
The race didn't gone well for Ford, but as long as the race emerge, surprising to say, none of the Ferrari finished the race. The Ford manages to finish in P1, P2, and P3. Ken Miles had a golden chance to win the race and make history as the drive that manage to win Endurance Racing triple crown in a year, only to be hindered by the controversial rules that forced him to gave his victory to the founder father of the McLaren Automotive, Bruce McLaren.
It maybe didn't went well for Ken, but at least, he grateful for the race opportunity and myself, because Ford dominated the race in a best possible fashion.
Overall, this is a recommended movie if you are a petrolhead, history lover, or for the fans of Matt Damon and Christian Bale. Just enjoy the movie and you'll be satisfied :)
